November 2026 Tax Deadlines: The Seven Deadlines You Cannot Afford to Miss

November 2026 Tax Deadlines: The Seven Deadlines You Cannot Afford to Miss

November is one of the busiest months in the UK tax calendar. Seven deadlines land within four weeks, and three of them fall on weekends, which changes how you should plan your payments.

This is a date-by-date run-through of what is due, who it affects, and what to do about each one. If you miss one, our penalty guides linked below explain what happens next.

1 November: Corporation Tax Payment (Sunday)

Companies with an accounting period ending 31 January 2026 must pay their Corporation Tax by 1 November 2026, unless they pay by quarterly instalments. This is a payment deadline, not a filing deadline: the return itself follows later.

Because 1 November falls on a Sunday this year, make sure cleared funds reach HMRC on time. Electronic payments are usually the safest route for a weekend deadline.

7 November: MTD Quarterly Update (Saturday)

Sole traders and landlords already in Making Tax Digital for Income Tax because their qualifying income exceeded £50,000 face their second quarterly update on 7 November 2026. Under standard periods it covers 6 April to 5 October; under calendar periods it covers 1 April to 30 September. The updates are cumulative, covering the year so far rather than just the latest three months.

Two practical points. First, 7 November is a Saturday, so aim to file by Friday 6 November. Second, HMRC is not applying penalty points for late quarterly updates during the 2026 to 2027 tax year, but the updates are still legally required before you file your tax return, so use the breathing space to fix your process, not to skip the filing.

Our full guide to the 7 November update walks through the detail, including how to confirm which period your software uses.

7 November: VAT Return and Payment (Saturday)

VAT-registered businesses on the standard stagger, with quarters ending in March, June, September and December, must file their VAT return and pay any VAT due for the quarter ending 30 September 2026 by 7 November. Returns and payment are both due one month and seven days after the quarter ends.

The same weekend warning applies: file by Friday 6 November to be safe. If you pay by Direct Debit, allow enough time for HMRC to collect the payment. Under MTD for VAT, all returns must go through compatible software. If you are unsure which stagger you are on, check your quarter dates in the GOV.UK VAT returns guide.

Our plain-English guide to how VAT works explains the return process if this is your first quarter.

19 November: PAYE and CIS (Thursday)

Employers must pay PAYE, employee and employer National Insurance, student loan deductions and Construction Industry Scheme deductions for the month ended 5 November 2026. The postal deadline is 19 November; paying by post means the money must reach HMRC by that date.

The CIS300 monthly return for the month ended 5 November is also due by 19 November.

22 November: Electronic PAYE Payment (Sunday)

If you pay electronically, PAYE, National Insurance, student loan and CIS deductions for the month ended 5 November are due on 22 November 2026. This falls on a Sunday, so arrange the payment early enough for cleared funds to reach HMRC by the deadline.

Our employer National Insurance guide covers the rates behind these payments.

30 November: Corporation Tax Returns (Monday)

Companies with an accounting period ending 30 November 2025 must file their Corporation Tax returns by 30 November 2026. Note the joint HMRC and Companies House online filing service closed on 31 March 2026, so you now need commercial software to file a CT600, with annual accounts filed separately at Companies House.

30 November: Companies House Accounts (Monday)

Private companies with an accounting period ending 28 February 2026 must file their annual accounts at Companies House by 30 November 2026. Different deadlines apply to a company’s first accounts, so check your own filing date in your Companies House account if this is your first year. The GOV.UK guide to filing company accounts and tax returns covers both deadlines in one place.

One Last October Date

Before November starts, 31 October brings the paper Self Assessment deadline for 2025 to 2026. Miss it and you can normally still file online by 31 January 2027, but the paper route closes. Our paper-deadline guide covers what counts as filed on time.

Your November Action List

  1. This week: confirm which 7 November deadlines apply to you, MTD quarterly update, VAT return, or both, and check which period your software covers.
  2. By 1 November: make the Corporation Tax payment if your period ended 31 January 2026.
  3. By 6 November: file anything due on the 7th, since it is a Saturday.
  4. Mid-month: run payroll, file the CIS300, and schedule the 22 November electronic payment early because it is a Sunday.
  5. End of month: file the Corporation Tax return and Companies House accounts if your periods ended 30 November 2025 or 28 February 2026.

Frequently Asked Questions

What tax deadlines fall in November 2026?

Seven key deadlines: Corporation Tax payment on 1 November, the MTD quarterly update and VAT return on 7 November, PAYE and CIS300 on 19 November, electronic PAYE on 22 November, and Corporation Tax returns plus Companies House accounts on 30 November.

What happens if a deadline falls on a weekend?

Plan around it. 1 November is a Sunday, and 7 and 22 November are a Saturday and a Sunday, so file and pay early enough that cleared funds reach HMRC by the deadline. Electronic payments are usually the safest option.

Are there penalties for a late MTD quarterly update?

HMRC is not applying penalty points for late quarterly updates during the 2026 to 2027 tax year. The updates remain legally required, and late VAT returns still earn penalty points under the VAT points system.

Do I need commercial software to file a Corporation Tax return?

Yes. The joint HMRC and Companies House online filing service closed on 31 March 2026. You now need commercial software to file a CT600, with annual accounts filed separately at Companies House.

When is the VAT return due for the September quarter?

For businesses on the standard stagger with quarters ending 30 September 2026, the VAT return and payment are due by 7 November 2026. Your quarters may differ, so check your VAT registration certificate or HMRC online account.

I missed the 31 October paper Self Assessment deadline. What now?

You can normally still file online by 31 January 2027. See our paper-deadline guide for what counts as filed on time.
